CHARACTER INFO
Name | Nezumi
Series | No. 6 (Novel)
Canon Point |  About a month after he leaves No. 6 and making his "vow" to Shion.
Reference | http://no6.wikia.com/wiki/No.6_Wiki
Age | 16, aged up to 18.
Gender | Male
Suitability | He would fair quite well. He’s already lived a life filled with poverty and sex is not a new thing for him. He may be outraged at first, but in no way overwhelmed by the prospect of having to have sex. Though he will be pretty cranky about this fact, and likely not do it until he’s cursed, and even then he might be adverse to it.
Appearance | After the age up, Nezumi won’t look much different than his usual self. He’ll be two years older and thus somewhat taller. But he will retain his androgynous appearance and ability to look feminine or masculine on command. And even though his appearance might have been altered slightly, his eyes are still cold and emotionless as always.
Personality | Blunt, sarcastic, cranky, elegant and mean are all words that can appropriately describe Nezumi, and accurately. He’s an actor, androgynous in appearance, voice and personality, he’s many things right on the outside. However, he has quite a few layers of personality that don’t show immediately through. Such as what he loves, what he hates, his dreams, his fears... He’s pretty secretive, and likes to push people away, so it’s rather rare for someone to see his inner self. He doesn’t like letting people close. He’s manipulative, smart, deceptive and a joker, but deep down, he does have a passionate and caring layer, if you look deep enough. And despite his cold exterior, he is actually quite emotional. Why don’t we start on the outside layers and move inwards?

At first glance, one would just see Nezumi as a simple man, not much to say and nothing really to offer, simply a pretty boy with a charming voice. As you might meet him, however, you would notice his sharp tongue and vulgar language. He would be hard to get along with and any sort of misconceptions that you might have had about him being a kind and gentle person would not only be dashed, but it would be thrown on the ground and trampled on too. He's not afraid to speak his mind in the slightest, which leads to him sounding very rude. And he uses sarcasm like nobody's business, giving him a rather snarky air of superiority.

This is due to his adversity to being close to anyone. He doesn't want anyone to like him, so he simply doesn't care about what people really think. However, he is a well-liked actor from where he comes from, so he does enjoy entertaining people now and again. Plays and acting, and musicals are some of his favorite hobbies after all. Even though they never had money for good costumes, it was still fun for him. It was the acting he enjoyed, and was very good at. So besides being a rude, snarky guy, he is also someone who can easily be admired.

Appearance-wise and personality-wise, Nezumi is very androgynous. His voice is described as sounding neither male nor female, yet he can switch from a more feminine or masculine voice on command. He has also been described as graceful, many times by Shion. When he acts, his stage name is "Eve", as he often plays as a female on stage. He is very popular among his audience for his singing and acting skills. He also uses the feminine side of his voice to tease or manipulate the people around him, and to flirt every now and then. He has also been shown using his androgyny to manipulate others and get himself out of trouble, such as making himself look dainty and vulnerable, despite the fact that he is neither of those things at all.

Nezumi is very manipulative, as stated earlier. With the money that he gets from his job as an actor, he has been known to use sources to gather information. His main source is Inukashi, who he has a tendency to use ruthlessly. Inukashi, having been raised by dogs, is very attached to the dogs in the hotel they work at, so when Inukashi’s mother died and Nezumi was asked to sing to the dog so that she may pass on peacefully, he made Inukashi pay him so much money that he almost starved to death afterwards. This is the main example, but Nezumi will use anyone’s weakness against them if he finds them out. He is not afraid to blackmail and cheat to get what he wants. However, this part of him is something he doesn’t show to Shion.

Not just an actor, singer and jerk, Nezumi is actually quite serious, and if you know him for any amount of time, this will become obvious. He is often caught with a contemplative frown on his face and never takes things lightly. He's very straight forward about what he thinks, as well. He has a very black and white thought process, yes or no, good or bad, he doesn't often show interest in a third option, or something in between. It just wastes time. For this reason, optimistic people like Shion infuriate him. He doesn't understand how someone could possibly think like that. By the end of the series, however, he's a little less hostile towards it, even showing endearment, and not wanting Shion to change his annoying ways.

Nezumi doesn’t quickly let on what he likes, but there are surely things that he does adore, despite his usually cold, snarky exterior. He enjoys salty things, for example, though he would likely eat anything that you put on a plate, he likes some well-salted stew and meat. He also enjoys when his food is piping hot, rather than simply hot, or luke-warm. He also loves books. Novels, plays, epics, you name it. He will memorize passages and read them off passionately very often in the series. Aside from food and stories, Nezumi likes...well, Shion. It’s hard to get around that. He really, very much likes Shion. Enough that he was willing to sacrifice his life for him, despite his fear of dying, and despite the fact that he doesn’t want to get close to anyone. He really, really does care for Shion. One thing that should be noted about Nezumi’s liking for Shion is that he really loves his hair. He also has an affinity for anything mouse-like, which is where his name comes from. Not only does he have mice that are always with him, but he likes comparing himself to them as well. His mice, Hamlet, Cravat and Tsukikyo are old friends of his from his childhood in the forest, and thus, he cherishes them as well, though perhaps not quite as obviously as he cherishes Shion.

Just like Nezumi has things that he likes, he has things that he dislikes as well. These things are less hidden, however. He hates things like cold food, sea food just being cold in general, preferring the warmth that piping hot soup or another’s body can offer him. He also hates being confined. All of these things stem from the brief times that he was caught by No. 6, and the time that he spent escaping from them, as well as when Shion reached out to him and helped him. The warmth of his body that night was a memory that he always kept close to his heart, despite the fact that he always says that keeping memories like that are useless. He hates things that hold him back, things that could potentially kill him and things that otherwise shackle him to one spot. He loathes the idea of himself or someone that he cares about giving up on life, pushing his belief that one should always push forward and survive on them, no matter what. He hates getting close, though by the end he can’t help it... When meeting new people, even now though, he might be rather resistant towards anyone getting to know him.

These likes and dislikes are things that he prefers to keep to himself, as they often show that he’s more than an apathetic bastard that should be disliked. He doesn’t like people knowing that he actually, very, very deep down, cares. He doesn’t like seeing people around him dying, and doesn’t like when people he cares about (namely Shion) are upset or may be upset in the future, or, far worse than that; die. When Safu had been taken into the correctional facility and Nezumi was given the choice of either throwing that information away or handing it off to Shion, the reason that he didn’t was because, more than anything, he didn’t want to see Shion die. And when Shion inevitably ran into the correctional facility to save her, Nezumi accompanied him. He had to protect him, and he also had to make sure Safu was safe. Not because he cared about Safu, but because he cared about Shion. He knew that if Safu was safe, then Shion would be happy. The reason that he doesn’t want people getting close to him exactly like Shion did, is because he would act like that for someone he treasures. He would lay his life on the line for them and protect them. They would become a weakness. “Someone who has something to protect has already lost,” as quoted several times in the series.

If someone were to get close enough to Nezumi for him to show some sort of romantic interest, it probably wouldn’t be that deep. Unless you are someone he already cherishes deeply, such as Shion, he won’t be a very kind or faithful lover. Romance and sex have never been very connected with him. Although he knows that it’s like that for most people, he’s never actually been in love with someone that he’s had sex with, so he simply never related the two. So even if he were to get to the point where he’s kissing someone, or going to bed with them, he is just as likely to cast them aside the very next day as he is to tossing out a toy that he’s become bored of. However, for someone that he treasures, namely Shion, it is a far different story. He would be far more tender with them, though not exactly a gentleman. He would try to keep in mind what they like and try to make them happy. (Though no promises.) All in all, he would actually try for someone that he really cared about. And just like he can have sex without showing any romantic interest in the person, he can likewise show romantic interest without having sex with the person. Though he certainly isn’t adverse to the idea, far from it actually, sex is rarely something that comes immediately to mind with him, because he never connected the two together. He is content with teasing, hand-holding and kissing, at least in the very beginning before he realizes that you can definitely have sex with the person that you love, it’s actually a thing. One more thing in relation to romance, is that Nezumi would likely rarely, if not never say the words “I love you.” Not only does he hate throwing words like that around, but he has trouble keeping his feelings into those three words alone. He prefers to show it, rather than say it, much like the rest of his quirks and personality-aspects.

In conclusion, Nezumi is a stingy, self-centered, cranky jerk. Despite this, however, he does have a caring side, deep down as it may be. He’s an actor, a singer and a player by trade, and he isn’t afraid to use these things to his advantage. He’s a survivalist right down to the core, fearing death and doing all he can to avoid it. He’s serious and blunt, no matter how far down you get into his being. And if you’re someone he considered precious, namely Shion, he is a tender and actually a somewhat protective person. He’s not the sort of human that you’re used to, he’s mysterious and odd in many ways, but in the end, he is fundamentally, one of the most human people you will ever meet.

Possessions | Nezumi doesn’t have a lot on him, other than the clothes on his back and a bag to carry food and bronze, silver and golden pieces, but there are a couple things to note that are of importance.

Knives are a thing that he goes nowhere without, so he will have at the very least two knives with him hidden somewhere on his body.

Another thing that he will have with him are tiny mouse-shaped robots. He uses them to gather information and keep tabs on people, along with the other mice he keeps as companions. (But those won’t be coming with him.) They can be use as projectors and sort of like flash drives to store computerized information on.
Character Abilities/Powers | Being human, Nezumi can’t fly or breathe under water or throw lightning bolts at you, but he is rather quick on his feet, and good with a knife. He’s a survivalist right to the core. Any skill that one needs to survive, he probably has it. If you were to throw him into a barren wasteland, he would probably figure out a way to survive it. He doesn’t give up, and that’s an ability all in itself.

Tying in with his survival instincts, he has a heightened sense of danger and the ability to see in the dark. If someone were to try and sneak up on him, they would fail. The only one who has been known to catch him off guard is Shion, who is likely the one and only exception to this case.

Nezumi is also descended from a group of people that could speak to Elyurias, a...sort of deity from the forest he was born in, both worshipped and feared. They could placate her with their singing. So Nezumi has an excellent singing voice, compared to the wind, that has been known to calm those who are panicking, or allow a dying dog to pass on peacefully.

Other than that, he cannot do anything remarkable or inhuman. He’s a good actor and has a knack for memorizing passages in books and poems, and he also makes a mean stew, but really, nothing remarkable.
Weaknesses/Fears | It isn’t easy to put into words what Nezumi fears. His fears and worries tie directly into his personality in a way that makes it hard to explain. However, the main ones are his fear of getting close to anyone, dying or giving up, and...well, Shion.

His fear of getting close to someone stems from the tragedy in his life. First his family and everyone he knew were slaughtered by No. 6 when he was very young, and he got close to an old woman from the forest who taught him much of what he knows today. This woman also died by the hands of No. 6. She was the last person he ever allowed himself to become attached to, for fear of going through the agony of losing them again. She was the last, that is, until he met Shion. Nezumi quite reluctantly got very close to Shion, so much that another fear stemmed from it; fear of losing Shion, or anyone else, really. He can’t stand the thought.

Nezumi, as mentioned several times, is a survivalist. More than anything, he wishes to survive, he wishes to move on. He doesn’t ever want to stand still, and he will always push forward, no matter what. He hates being unable to continue, he hates having to give up. So, as much as everything else, he is terrified of confinement. He doesn’t like being in a place or situation where he can’t escape or get out of it, for fear of having no other choice but to quietly accept it. He likes to be free.

“Fear of Shion” is a blanket-fear for Nezumi really, because there are many aspects of Shion that terrifies him. First of all, his ability to be so carefree, how straightforward he is, how he never knows what he’s going to say or do next... Nezumi finds these three things annoying, unnerving and endearing. The next level would be how Shion is able to become to close to him, even by the end of the series, this fear doesn’t fade. He’s usually able to cut people off, but never Shion. He wormed his way under Nezumi’s skin and that scares him a lot. Above all, he can’t handle the idea of losing him. Shion, nearing the end of the middle and end of the series, is like a treasure to him. Take this boy, and Nezumi will do a lot for you, however begrudgingly.
Requested Village | Ithir.
NPC mini-plot | Throw him into any plot you want! I am perfectly fine with this.

SAMPLES
First-person | [The boy that appears on the video screen looks rather disgruntled. And he doesn’t just look disgruntled, he actually is. Evidently he doesn’t take being pulled out of his world and thrown into another very lightly.]

This is ridiculous. [Of course, he already knows the situation that he’s been provided with, and he doesn’t want to ask questions that he already basically knows the answers to. He wants to know the other things.]

They throw us in here, with no explanation as to why we’re here, and then they expect us to get a job and get money to survive? [You think they would have the common courtesy to give them everything for free, but no.]

Not only that, but they tell us what to do. “Find a suitable partner,” my ass. [Nezumi will have sex whenever he wants to, and not one someone else is sitting there telling him to do it. It kind of ruins the fun then, doesn’t it?] Ironically, I actually don’t like feeling like some insignificant lab rat. It’s awful.

[Don’t mind him, he’ll just be venting. He doesn’t really expect anyone to answer.]

Third-person | Strictly speaking, Nezumi should have been more upset than he actually was to be here. He was in a strange land that was absolutely nothing like his own. He was surrounded by strange people who weren’t...all human. That was a new thing for him. Things that were the stuff of stories were here, and it not only unnerved him, but it made him want to find the nearest exit and get as far away as he could possibly get. He was away from the things he was used to, even the mice that had been with him since he was a very small child weren’t on his person. He was completely out of his comfort zone. So...he should have been far more upset, right?

No... Despite all of these things around him, he was strangely humbled. Simply because it had been a long time since he had been surrounded by trees. It was a simple thing that he had never actually thought of before. Between surviving and trying to take down No. 6, he had never taken the time to really stop and think about how much he missed the forest. Although he saw the odd tree here and there, and No. 6 had many growing throughout, they were all...almost artificial. They were all carbon copies of eachother, they were all exactly the same size, they were all far too perfect.

Even though he had been very young when the forest was taken away from him, he always remembered what it was like. No two trees were exactly the same. Some had small leaves, some hard large...some here even different colors than green. There were the tall, ancient trees and the saplings that grew among their roots. There was never uniformity in the forest, never. Even the houses they lived in were as different as the trees. It had been...just like this. Just like this area that he’d been thrown into.

The trees were as they should be, and that was something that Nezumi thought he would never actually see in his life again.

So, despite the fact that he was in a strange world completely unlike his own, and despite the fact that he was surrounded by weird people he wanted absolutely nothing to do with, he found himself at home. Not just at home like he felt when he was in the underground "rat nest" where he came from, but at home in a way that he hadn't felt since he had parents. It was a nostalgic, almost sweet feeling. But there was a bitter bite to it that he couldn't shake. And he knew exactly why, but he was hesitant to admit it, even to himself.

Nezumi looked up towards the sky, squinting as the sun seared his silver eyes.

The vision of white, messy, doggish hair filled his mind's eye. There was the brilliant white of a familiar smile, and for a brief second, it felt real. Like that person was actually there. Yet, like a mirage before a parched man in the desert, the image was chased away when he tried to see it more clearly. His gaze dropped back to the gnarled tree before him, and he closed his eyes.

"Shion."

The word was as the rustle of autumn leaves as the wind carried them into the distance.
